Book Review: Murderous Maths: The Key to the Universe

The box set of Murderous Maths by Kjartan Poskitt arrived while we were on vacation.  Jane was anxious for the Amazon box to be opened, hoping for a surprise.  I showed her the Murderous Maths books, and continued to unload the car.  The next time I saw her, she was reading The Key to the Universe.  She kept it up until bedtime, and the next morning started again with breakfast, rather than asking to play her laptop or watch TV.  Clearly, Kjartan must be doing something right here.

I broke the spell by asking her how the book was, and she said it was getting kind of confusing, and put it down.  But, she approved the idea of continuing together once I caught up with the first 40 pages that she had already read.

It's Wednesday morning, she's asleep, and I've started reading.  I'm at page 31, and I think I can now say that Mr. Poskitt is a genius.  I'm learning new math (despite my progression through partial differential equations in school).  Fibonacci sequences, reproducing bunnies, and the golden ratio now make sense to me!

Flipping through the book, it looks like each chapter discusses a different topic.  This chapter also has some fun activities to go along with the reading.  And comic book segments!

My eight year old was riveted.  I am happy with my purchase :)
